In the United Kingdom Imerys Minerals Ltd (IML) manage the extraction, processing and dispatch of kaolin, ball clay and calcium carbonate.
The United Kingdom is the third largest producer of kaolin globally, with IML producing around 900,000 tonnes of finished product annually. 900 employees support the business, with this number increasing significantly through indirect employment in areas such as engineering, mobile plant, haulage and secondary aggregates.With land ownership in excess of 5500 hectares in mid-Cornwall, IML operate nine open cast kaolin quarries, three refineries, four drying complexes, one secondary processing plant, engineering, warehousing, office and laboratory facilities and a deep water port at Fowey. Additional drying and bagging facilities operate at Lee Moor in Devon.
Reducing energy costs is an ongoing company commitment. To date, four 500kW wind turbines and six solar parks have been installed on non-operational and redundant land in Cornwall and Devon, generating more than 30mW of green energy. Combined Heat and Power plant has also been installed at drying facilities.
Imerys Minerals Limited is also an active and responsible member of the local community. From creating over 40kms of permissive footpaths and trails, holding regular liaison group meetings, to fundraising for local organisations, IML continues to support its neighbours and local businesses.
